SACRAMENTO, Calif. — 80 Cadets with the California Highway Patrol will run from the CHP Academy to the State Capitol on Jan. 22 at 5:15 a.m. to culminate more than six months of training to become officers.

The cadets will gather at the California Peace Officers’ Memorial monument to pay their respects to the more than 1,600 men and women who have given their lives to serve and protect the public throughout California.

The five-mile cadet run is a long-standing tradition that takes place two days before graduation. Family and friends of the cadets often stand along the route, waving flags and banners.
