UPDATE: Coroner identifies man killed in motorcycle crash on China Grade Loop

BAKERSFIELD, Calif — (UPDATE 12:40 p.m.) The Kern County Coroner's Office identified Jack Christopher Shipley, 51, of Bakersfield as the driver of a motorcycle that collided with a sports utility vehicle at the China Grade Loop, just north of Alfred Harrell Highway.

He was pronounced deceased on scene. A postmortem examination will be conducted to determine cause and manner of death.


California Highway Patrol officers are investigating after a collision left one person dead.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident page, officers were called to the area of China Grade Loop just north of Alfred Harrel Highway for a vehicle versus motorcycle collision shortly after 8 p.m.

The incident page reports that a coroner was called just after 8:48.

Roads are closed in both directions of China Grade Loop while officers investigate. There is currently no estimated time for reopening.
