BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Officers started pacing traffic on the Grapevine Thursday night.
The California Highway Patrol traffic website reported snow flurries on the summit around 7:30 p.m. and said officers will be pacing vehicles from Lebec to Gorman on the I-5.
Officials did not report how long the pacing would continue.
23ABC's meteorologist Allison Gargaro says the majority of the storm is expected to clear by midnight, but freezing temperatures in the Fort Tejon area will mean the potential for black ice.
Officials remind drivers to slow down. pack food, water, and extra blankets in their vehicle if they're traveling through the area.
CHP Fort Tejon said they do not anticipate closing the Grapevine, but just want to make sure everyone makes it across safely.
