California State University, Bakersfield is getting on the map after ranking in the top 10 for best masters degree programs. 

The university moved up from its previous ranking of 87 in 2015. 

The Washington Monthly, a magazine in Washington D.C. is responsible for this ranking. It also ranked CSUB number four for being the best "bang for your buck" western school.

The magazine ranks colleges and universities based off of their contributions to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research, and service.
