BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Caltrans has begun permanent construction repairs on Highway 178 about six miles east of Ridgecrest following the earthquakes near the city.
The 178 experienced cracking in three separate areas within a four-mile stretch due to seismic activity. After the earthquakes, Caltrans said maintenance crews made temporary repairs to the 178.
One-way traffic control with assistance from a pilot car is in effect while permanent repairs are made. Construction is scheduled to last through the end of the week.
According to Caltrans, Interim Director Bob Franzola signed an emergency order allocating $3.1 million for needed repairs.
