UPDATE (4/1): A representative with the Kern County Cancer fund says that over $300,000 were raised at the event.

ORIGINAL: The battle against cancer will hit Bakersfield beginning Friday as thousands will Campout Against Cancer.

The annual event begins Friday afternoon at the State Farm Sports Complex off Taft Highway and Ashe Road. 

Monday raised at the event will go to the Kern County Cancer Fund, which helps local cancer patients pay for their medical bills. 

Organizers say 100 percent of the proceeds raised at Campout Against Cancer will stay in Kern County.
