Dozens showed up on Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil for 18-year-old David Mercado who was shot and killed yesterday after someone broke into this garage.
Those that gathered held a moment of silence and prayed together, holding posters that read "Rest in Peace" with Mercado's pictures. His family says he was a student at East High School.
The family says Mercado was with a cousin on Monday night in their garage on the 4500 block of Tierra Verde when a man opened it and started firing. Mercado died at the hospital. The other male suffered one gunshot wound but is expected to survive.
Mercado's family says they don't know who would do something like this to their loved one. BPD is still investigating the shooting and at this time have no leads on the suspect.
Police are still looking for the person responsible but the only description they have is that the suspect is a black male that fled in a dark colored sedan.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
