(UPDATE: 2:03 p.m.) HWY 178 heading into the Canyon is now open.

According to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident page HWY 178 is blocked off in both directions heading into the Canyon for a vehicle over the side.

The car is not in the Kern River, according to the CHP traffic incident page, but crews are working to tow the car out of the Canyon and it is impacting traffic.

At this time there is not an estimated time on when the Canyon will be reopened for drivers.
