BAKERSFIELD, CA. — This week is Cardiac Rehab Week at Memorial Hospital.
The hospital is recognizing its patients for their hard work during the heart surgery rehab process.
“This particular rehab is the most active in the community and I think we are lucky to have the resources for our patients to recover," said Dr. Tommy Lee, Director of Cardiac Services at Memorial Hospital.
Patients typically start rehab 4 weeks after heart surgery but it can vary on a case by case basis. For Lesly Minney, a cardiac rehab patient at Memorial Hospital, rehab is an hour workout three days a week.
“Coming here gave me the confidence that I’m safe and monitored and everything is ok and I wont do anything I cant do," said Minney.
Minney underwent heart surgery after a heart attack during a run on the treadmill.
“I actually checked my apple watch to see and it kept telling me I had inconclusive results and to seek medical attention so I was like 'wow,'" said Minney.
