Caroline Harris Elementary School recognized for healthy habits

One Bakersfield elementary school has been recognized nationally for the healthy habits the school is providing.

The United States Department of Agriculture awarded Caroline Harris Elementary School the HealthierUS School Challenge Gold Award.

Bakersfield Mayor Goh also presented the school a certificate of recognition that said, “The Harris Hawks are number one, the leaders. Congratulations to all and especially to Principal Anne Lopez.”

USDA Food and Nutrition Services developed the HealthierUS School Challenge to showcase different schools that promote healthy school environments.

Schools can showcase good health by, promoting good nutrition, physical activity, and teaching students about nutrition.

“BCSD’s Harris Elementary demonstrated initiative, creativity and resourcefulness to win the Gold Award in the HealthierUS School Challenge,” said Brenda Robinson, Director of Nutrition Services, BCSD.
