The Kern County Fire Department is investigating how a carport caught fire, later spreading to part of a house and attic in McFarland.

It happened at around 12:20 p.m. in the 600 Block of Ebell Street.

KCFD had 9 engines and 28 firefighters on scene battling the blaze. Crews were able to protect the two surrounding houses from any exposure.

No one was home at the time at the time of the fire. 

Damages are said to be about $80,000. Crews were able to save $300,000 worth of property.

The cause is under investigation
