Cataldo's Pizzeria on New Stine Road near Wilson Road was shut down by the Kern County Department of Public Health after a health inspection.

According to the public health Safe Diner website, health inspectors visited the pizzeria Friday for an inspection. Health inspectors found a clogged drain, food debris and evidence that the facility failed to demonstrate proper food safety knowledge.

In the report, inspectors noted that the owner continued to operate with an active vermin infestation. Inspectors found cockroaches on food counters, in food containers, in the main lobby, in drains and inside an open dry pizza mix.

The restaurant was required to close down Friday to correct the issues. Inspectors are requiring the facility to remain closed until all of the vermin infestation has been abated and the facility is reinspected.
