Cesar Chavez mural along Highway 99 causing controversy

Posted

A mural of activist Cesar Chavez along Highway 99 is causing controversy near Madera.

The cinderblock mural was painted with the words “Si se puede” on Cinco de Mayo by a group of artists. The artwork was painted alongside another standing mural with the words “Support our troops”.

Just days after the Cesar Chavez mural was painted, it was gone. The creator of the murals said they were both painted without permission.

The City of Madera is looking into claims that its workers painted over the mural. No one has yet taken responsibility.
