A woman was killed in a car crash on Interstate 5 near the base of the Grapevine in Fort Tejon Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said the collision happened just after 9:30 a.m. on northbound I-5 near the west escape ramp.

Witnesses reported seeing the victim driving at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of the lanes before the crash, CHP said.

The victim was driving in one of the middle lanes when she lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the center median, then went back into the freeway lanes before taking a hard left and going up the embankment, CHP said. The car rolled several times.

Speed is considered to be a factor in the crash. CHP does not believe drugs or alcohol played a role. Traffic is backed up and the left northbound lane on I-5 is expected to be closed until around 12:30 p.m.

The victim is described as a woman in her 20's from the Porterville area. Her identity has not yet been released.
