Kern County Sheriff's Office releases identities of two people killed in Union Ave crash

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A crash on Union Avenue in Bakersfield has left two people dead.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2004 Chevrolet driven by 23-year-old Edgar Antonio Martinez veered off the road and struck a chain link fence and cinder block wall on Union Ave shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday night. Martinez and his passenger, 24-year-old Liliana Lisset Bautista, were ejected from the vehicle. Both Martinez and Bautista were declared dead at the scene.

It was later determined neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The accident is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. It isn't known if alcohol or drugs were involved in this collision.
