(UPDATE 8:40 AM): A woman from Madera was killed and two people from Wasco were hurt following a crash Sunday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2015 Nissan Versa was heading eastbound on Peterson Road, near Highway 43, when she failed to stop for the posted stop sign and traveled directly into the path of a 2007 Nissan Murano.
The two vehicles crashed and came to rest in the northeast corner of the intersection. The driver and passenger of the Murano were taken to Kern Medical with minor and moderate injuries. The driver of the Versa sustained major injuries and was taken to Kern Medical where she later succumbed to the injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.

According to the California Highway Patrol traffic page, three vehicles were possibly involved in the collision, which happened near Highway 43 and Peterson Road shortly before 5 p.m.
The traffic page describes the crash as a head-on collision. One vehicle collided into a telephone pole.
Three people were injured, one person was unconscious and breathing, according to the traffic page.
At 5:33 p.m., CHP updated the traffic page to show that at least one person sustained major injuries.
