CHP: Man arrested in connection to deadly Oildale crash

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Damion James Hutson has been arrested in connection to a deadly crash that took place in Oildale on Monday, according to the CHP.

Hutson is scheduled to be in court on Wednesday, February 20.

CHP, who is investigating the incident, says they are interviewing a person who may have fled a scene. The crash happened near China Grade Loop and Manor Street.

Investigators said that a Dodge Challenger was speeding ran a red light and broad sided a pick-up truck. The challenger then hit the center median and several street signs, the impact of the crash, splitting the car in two.

Two people in the challenger were ejected and killed. The man driving the pick-up suffered major injuries.

CHP told 23ABC that witnesses said there was another person in the challenger,, possibly the driver that fled the scene. Officials say that the person they are interviewing is not considered a suspect at this time.

It is not clear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
