BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — According to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident page just after 9 a.m. a man drifted off the northbound Highway 99 freeway just south of Lerdo Highway and died shortly after.
CHP officials said the driver hit a telephone pole after leaving the freeway.
Crews on scene told 23ABC News that the driver may have had a underlying medical issues that caused to the man to crash.
The man was transferred to Kern Medical Center for major injuries and according to the CHP traffic page, the man died later Sunday.
PG&E was also out at the scene but the power pole was not impacted according officials.
