The California Highway Patrol is hosting a "Start Smart" class Tuesday, August 14. 

The class is free and offered to current and prospective teenage drivers and their parents or guardians. It's a two-hour class to talk about safe driving habits, making good decisions behind the wheel, tips on avoiding a collision and more. 

The class is at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Bakersfield CHP officer at 9855 Compagnoni Street. Call Bakersfield CHP at 661-396-6600 to sign up.
