BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A California Highway Patrol Officer is recovering Sunday morning following a hit-and-run crash on Cottonwood Road.
According to CHP, at around 11 p.m Saturday night, a CHP Officer, whose name will not be released was driving eastbound on the 58 near the Cottonwood Road exit. The officer was driving a 2016 marked Dodge CHP car.
Officials say the officer stopped for a red light and when the traffic light turned green, the officer proceeded into the intersection when he was struck by a white Chevrolet pick-up truck traveling southbound on Cottonwood Road. Officials say the driver of the pickup truck is 48-year-old Juan Moreno of Bakersfield.
Officials say Moreno ran a red light and hit the front left side of the officer's car and continued to drive away before hitting a fence. Moreno then fled to a nearby residence where he was eventually arrested and charged with suspicion of a DUI and felony hit-and-run.
Officials say the officer suffered minor to moderate injuries and was taken to Kern Medical where he was later released. Officials say he is expected to make a full recovery.
