CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. — The city council for California City has approved a 27.5% pay raise for California City Police officers.
Officers will see a 20% pay increase in the first year, followed by a 5% pay increase the second year and 2.5% pay increase the third year.
Cal City Police Chief Eric Hurtado says right now the department has 10 officers. Chief Hurtado says the pay raise will allow the the department to compete with other agencies in order to fill vacancies. Chief Hurtado says they are looking to hire 10 more officers over the next year.
Chief Hurtado says the pay raise will take effect on April 1, and will raise officer salary from $58,000 to $79,000.
