On July 4 CHP was alerted of a car crash on Rancheria Road and Highway 178, that resulted in one man's death and injury to the driver.

When CHP got there they identified Eli Valdovinos Jr. as the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado on Rancheria Road at an unknown speed with an unknown man as the passenger.

Valdovinos lost control of the pickup causing the vehicle to crash into a dirt berm.

Neither Valdovinos nor the passenger was wearing a seatbelt and both were partially or fully ejected from the pickup.

The passenger died from his injuries.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this collision and Valdovinos was arrested for driving under the influence.

The collision is still under investigation and the identity of the passenger has not yet been confirmed.
