The Kern County Fire Department is assisting the public in preparing for the predicted upcoming El Nino storms by providing free sandbags and sand in an event to be held in several locations throughout the county on December 19th from 10:00am to 12:00 noon.
Residents can fill up to 25 sandbags per address with provided sand. Supplies are limited.
Sandbags are just one way to help protect private property during potential flood conditions.
Residents are encouraged to prepare by clearing rain gutters, inspecting roofs and researching flood insurance

This event will be concluding the departments distribution of sandbags through stations. Additional sandbags can be purchased at home improvement stores and online.
