Community to hold vigil for brother, sister fatally shot in Central Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A vigil has been scheduled for the brother and sister fatally shot off Union Avenue early Monday morning.

The Kern County coroner identified 34-year-old Louise Abraham and 20-year-old Carlos Abraham as the two victims shot and killed by 39-year-old Moris Matauto Gilmente. According to Bakersfield Police, officers responded to the area of 6th Street and Union Avenue just before 1 a.m. Monday after a ShotSpotter activation. Police said they believe ShotSpotter detected three gun shots.

When police arrived to the scene at the Santa Fe Apartments on Union, they found the bodies of Louise and Carlos Abraham in the parking lot.

According to a family friend, a vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m on Tuesday in the Santa Fe Apartment complex. A vigil was also held Tuesday morning for friends and neighbors to pay their respects to the brother and sister.
