Weeks after beams from the World Trade Center arrived in Bakersfield, construction has begun on a 9/11 memorial.

The Bakersfield Fire Department posted the following video to their Facebook page, which shows contractors laying the foundation for the memorial.

Construction is expected to be finished by September 11, 2016, which will mark the 15th anniversary of the attacks.

The memorial, which will eventually feature a piece of the World Trade Center, will be located on Buena Vista Rd. between the Bakersfield Fire station and the Bakersfield Police substation.
