Coroner: 88-year-old woman fatally struck by another driver on hwy 178

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — According to the Kern County coroner, an 88-year-old woman was fatally struck by another car on Highway 178 in Bakersfield.

Officials said, on August 9 around 7:38 p.m. Margaret Elizabeth Smith was the driver of a car that was hit by another car at Eastbound 178, west of Democrat Road. She was taken to Kern Medical where she died that same day.

A postmortem examination was performed and the cause of death is blunt injuries and the manner of death is accident.
