BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A Bakersfield man has died from complications of a gunshot wound he suffered 15 years ago, according to the Kern County Coroner's Office.

Officials say 50-year-old John Christopher Thompson was found dead inside a home in the 2200 block of Manley Court in East Bakersfield. He was found on Feb. 28, 2019, almost 15 years to the date from when he was shot.

The coroner's office determined his cause of death was from the gunshot he suffered on Feb. 29, 2004, and ruled it a homicide.

According to Bakersfield police the case went unsolved and is now a closed case and the department has no plans to reopen it.
