BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — According to the Kern County coroner, former McFarland City Manager John Wooner's cause of death has been declared as a drowning due to blunt injuries.

Back in July, officials said the 57-year-old's body was found in a city vehicle submerged in the Kern River after he had been missing since May 14. He was last seen visiting Hillcrest Cemetery.

Court documents detailed thatWooner faced allegations of sexual misconduct and reportedly had an ongoing issue with a city council member.

The coroner also confirmed the manner of Wooner's death was an accident.
