Coroner identifies man killed in officer-involved shooting over the weekend in Mojave

MOJAVE, Calif. — The Kern County Coroner has identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Mojave over the weekend as 30-year-old Israel Lucas.

According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Family Dollar store in the 2300 block of Highway 58, when a man refused to leave the store at about 11:36 a.m.

KCSO said the man became combative with the deputies and engaged in a physical altercation, leading to at least one deputy opening fire and killing the man.

A postmortem examination was conducted, and his cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds and the manner is homicide.
