CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. — The coroner's office is working to identify a body that was found following a house fire in California City over the weekend.

The California City Police Department said Sunday afternoon at around 3:15 p.m. officers and firefighters responded to a house fire on Manzanita Avenue near Airway and Redwood Boulevard.

Firefighters say they tried to stop the fire from inside, but because of hoarder conditions, the fire spread quickly. Fire crews had to leave the inside of the house because the roof became compromised and started to collapse.

During the search of the home, firefighters say they found a dead man inside. Police and arson investigators are still investigating the fire.

The coroner's office says it is working to identify the man and contact next of kin.
