UPDATE (May 11, 2017 3:55 p.m.): The person who died in a crash on Highway 14 has been identified as 67-year-old James L. Howard from Ridgecrest.
Howard was driving a truck south when he hit a guardrail and overturned into a wash for unknown reasons.
He was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash is under investigation.

At least one person is dead following a crash on Highway 14 on Wednesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a car crashed on Highway 14 near Abbott Drive by the Red Rock Canyon State Recreation Area just before 5 a.m.
It's not known how many people were in the vehicle or what caused the crash.
