BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Crews confirmed they have completed repair work on a damaged gas line in Northwest Bakersfield.
The City of Bakersfield the damaged gas line around 4 p.m. Monday causing an intersection closure at Olive Drive and Jewetta Avenue. Kern County Fire officials said power in the area was shut off by PG&E and will remain off for at least another 5 hours as a precaution due to the gas and nearby electrical lines.
12 homes were evacuated during the repairs but all evacuations have since been lifted.
According to the City, a contractor hit the gas main while boring conduits in the area around 11:30 a.m.
The line is operated by Southern California Gas Company and the utility is on scene with Kern County Fire Department personnel.
