There is a red-flag warning in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday evening for a combination of low humidity and strong gusty winds.
Critical fire danger is expected this afternoon in the Kern County mountains and desert due to a combination of low humidity and strong gusty winds.
Winds will be coming from the west around 20 to 30 mph. Locally there will be higher gusts at up to 50 mph at times through and below mountain passes and canyons.
There will be six to eight hours of humidity in the lower teens expected in the watch area.
Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
