First-time freshmen, transfer students and families will be at California State University, Bakersfield this weekend for the New Student Convocation Weekend.

On Saturday, students will be able to move into and get settled in their rooms in Student Housing East beginning at 8 a.m.

The Roadrunner Parent's Association "Family Day" Luncheon and Resource Fair also will be held that afternoon, followed by a "Getting to Know You" cookout later in the evening.

The ceremony will include incoming CSUB students, both freshmen and transfers, and their families.

While commencement celebrates the accomplishment and completion of a student's academic journey, Convocation commemorates the beginning of that journey.

"New Student Convocation gives parents and students an opportunity to interact with faculty, staff, students and alumni at CSUB. It is a great way to kick-off the new school year, and it also gives new students a roadmap to success," said Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Thomas Wallace.

The fun doesn't stop when the weekend ends, as the Week of Welcome (WOW) officially begins on Monday, August 28.

Activities planned for the week include: Rec Fest at the Student Rec Center at 6 p.m. Monday.

A clubs and organizations social at the Student Union Multipurpose Room at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Rowdy Run at the women's soccer game at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Freshmen will join University leaders for a fun run on the field during halftime of the game.
