BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — California State University, Bakersfield announced the plan to build the Harvey L. Hall Family Plaza on Saturday in honor of the late 25th mayor of Bakersfield.

CSUB President Dr. Lynnette Zelezny said the plaza will be an extension of the Icardo Center. The addition is made possible by an undisclosed gift from the Hall family.

A release from CSUB said the open space will feature a two-tone brick walkway that will be highlighted by a bronze Roadrunner monument near the south side parking lot. Park benches, trees, and landscape will complete the renovation.

"Harvey Hall was dedicated to Kern County, to Bakersfield, and to CSUB," said President Zelezny. "He, his wonderful wife Lavonne and the rest of his family loved to support CSUB athletics, so it is only fitting that the Hall family will now have a permanent tribute at the entrance to the Icardo Center."

The project is expected to be finished prior to the university's move to the Big West Conference in the summer of 2020.
