CSU Bakersfield and the Bakersfield City School District have been awarded a grant to expand training for incoming teachers, a press release said Monday.

The grant is provided by the S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation and aims at expanding "practice-based training for new K-8 teachers in implementing the state's math and science standards."

The grant will reportedly fund the Kern Urban Teacher Residency program, a partnership between CSUB and BCSD that prepares CSUB credential candidates.

CSUB is one of 11 CSU campuses receiving the S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation grant.
