UPDATE (9/16): The Bakersfield Californian has published an article attempting to clarify why The Californian and Danny Morrison cut ties.
In the article, The Californian says they parted ways with Morrison because "despite attempts at counseling him regarding the inclusion in his columns of people who are not real, he continued to introduce these composite or hypothetical figures without clearly identifying them as such."
They went on to list columns that Morrison submitted, which can be viewed here.
ORIGINAL: Danny Morrison is out at the Bakersfield Californian three weeks after publishing an article titled "My president is a racist and it hurts."
Morrison made the announcement on his Facebook page on Monday, saying that he and the Californian "cut ties" on Monday.
The Bakersfield Californian sent 23 ABC a statement in regards to Morrison's departure:
In his Facebook post, Morrison added, "it's been a WONDERFUL last few years living out the dream of writing for my hometown newspaper. Being able to craft articles that tell the stories of those that are under-appreciated and underserved has been a dream come true."
23 ABC reached out to Morrison for comment, but we have not heard back.
