MCFARLAND, Calif. — Dozens of dead sheep were found dumped on a property in McFarland, this discovery was made on a privately owned property near Highway 65 and Sherwood Avenue, east of McFarland and about 20 miles north of Bakersfield.

The images are disturbing and the property owners posted on Facebook today pleading for help after finding hundreds of dead sheep dumped in a pit on their property.

They told 23ABC that they recently purchased the land where the sheep were found and were planning to use the area for cows. They went out to check on the property and found the sheep. Feeling helpless, they posted about the situation on Facebook and as the post quickly spread, it got the attention of local officials.

The property owners said that Kern County Supervisor Mike Maggard is now involved, as well as the sheriff's office. Even animal control is scheduled to come out this weekend and investigate.

This is an ongoing investigation which we will update as more information comes in.
