BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol says the woman who was killed in a crash in the Kern River Canyon on Thursday morning was not wearing a seat belt.
According to CHP, a car crashed in the canyon around 1:40 a.m. west of Democrat Road on Highway 178.
CHP officials say a car was headed west on the 178, but veered over the eastbound lane and struck the side of the mountain. After hitting the rock wall the car veered back to the right of the road and came to a rest in a turnout.
The CHP says a 55-year-old woman from Bodfish who was driving was killed. A woman in the passenger seat was also not wearing a seat belt. She suffered only minor injuries.
