One person is dead after being hit while crossing the roadway in South Bakersfield. 

It all happened on Fairview Road near South Union around 9:45 PM Sunday.

Officers say they found a man dead on the side of the road.

They believe a pick-up truck was traveling westbound on Fairview and hit him.

The driver fled the scene.

The pick-up was described as a dark colored GMC or Chevy full size pickup.
