UPDATE (Oct. 4, 2016, 1:27 P.M.): 58-year-old Perri Beach of  Modesto has been identified as the body found at Edwards Air Force Base last month.

Beach was found in open desert near the Air Force Base. An examination was completed and the cause of death is pending further studies.

Edwards Air Force Base has confirmed the discovery of decomposed human remains on the base early Monday afternoon.

The command post was informed of the finding of the remains in the northwestern area of the base and security forces from the base established a crime scene after the remains were found.

The Kern County Coroner transported the body and a forensic pathologist from the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System will examine the remains to determine the manner and cause of death. The identity of the deceased has yet to be determined.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations assumed jurisdiction for the ensuing investigation.
