The Deer fire is now 50 percent contained and 1,785 acres, fire officials announced Sunday evening.

Officials said last night firefighters were able to make good progress due to cooler temperatures and higher humidity over the fire.

Firefighters will continue to battle the fire from the air and on the ground.
Evacuations are still recommended for Bear Valley Springs residents to the north and west of the intersection of Deer Trail Drive and Starland Trail.
The community of Hart Flat is still advised to prepare for evacuation.
The evacuation center is located at Jacobsen Middle School in Tehachapi.
Highway 223 was reopened yesterday, Deer Trail and Starland Trail "Starland Loop" remains closed.
