Delano Police Department seeking criminal charges in high school football fight

UPDATE: The Delano Police Department says they are requesting criminal charges on Delano and Mission Oaks High School football players involved in a fight at last Friday night's game.

According to a Facebook post, the Delano Police Department conducted a criminal investigation and is filing a case with the Kern County District Attorney's Office.

District officials in Delano say the Delano High's football program is on probation and the team will not be allowed to participate in playoffs next year.

In a video that was posted on social media, you can see multiple players tackling a Mission Oak player on the Delano sideline.

Another video from the Mission Oak sideline shows multiple players trying to rush to the other side of the field but most are stopped by coaches.

23ABC has not been able to confirm if any players were injured or sent to the hospital.

Officials with the Delano Joint High School District issued a statement regarding the situation. They said they have been conducting interviews with those involved in the incident, reviewing video footage from various sources, and gathering facts.

"As a result of the incident, Delano high school's football program will be placed on probation for 2020-21 football season and will receive a one-year playoff ban."


Following an investigation into the fight that occurred during Delano High School's football game against Mission Oak High School last Friday, the school announced that the Tigers program will be placed on probation for the 2020-21 football season.

In addition, the team has been banned from the playoffs for one year.

The fight was caught on video from multiple angles.

In a statement issued by the school's principal and the district superintendent, the Delano Joint Union High School District said it will continue to investigate the incident.
