DELANO, Calif. - Delano Police arrested a woman on Monday who they said killed her own mother. According to a probable cause report, officers talked to Josie Alba Petersen, 48, about her mother's condition who said that she had passed away.
Police said on Monday they were dispatched to the 2300 block of Thomas Way near 23rd Avenue to check the welfare of Eufracia Petersen, 77.
Officials said police talked to Josie who told the officers her mother had died and the police report indicated that Peterson "spontaneously" said that her mother tried to attack her.
According to the report, the victim, Eufracia Petersen, 77, was found on the kitchen floor lying on her back with a large amount of blood coming from her head. She was declared dead at the scene by Delano ambulance personnel.
The police report said that a broken cane was also found at the scene. Delano police said that the victims brother indicated that Josie may have schizophrenia and might not be on her meds.
The report also states that the brother told police that sometimes when he would visit, he would notice bruising on his mother's arms. The victim, according to police, told the brother that Josie caused the bruising by grabbing the victim's arms.
The brother also told police that Josie and her mother would fight, sometimes physically, according to the report.
Josie Alba Petersen was arrested for murder and booked into the Kern County Jail.
