DELANO, Calif. — A man was killed after he was shot multiple times at his home in Delano on Wednesday. According to Delano Police, officers were dispatched to the area of Vassar Street and 7th Street just after 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say they found 45-year-old Michael David Ruiz suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Delano Regional where he died from his injuries.

DPD says this is the eighth homicide this year; four of those shootings happened in the last two months and remain unsolved.

The department tells 23ABC that as a result of what they call a concerning trend, they will immediately launch a Gun Violence Response operation.

A DPD Facebook post says, "Members from throughout the department and allied agencies will converge on locations and persons believed to be involved in violent crime. This operation will continue until further notice."

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Delano Police at 721-3377.
