Delano restaurant found in violation of health department codes

(UPDATE: 5/2/19): On March 15, a second inspection was conducted at Chow Mein's Dishes and Groceries. The restaurant received an inspection score of 86% on this visit.

Chow Mein's Dishes and Groceries in Delano was found in violation of multiple health department codes, according to the 'Safe Diner' Inspection Violations Report from Kern County Public Health.

According to the report, some of these violations included:

  • Deactivated air curtain. Ensure air curtain is activated to prevent harborage of vermin.
  • Owners lacked to check hot water temperatures before opening business. Failure to self close knowing lack of hot water.
  • Water temperature measured at 92 degrees at hand washing sink. Water at hand washing sink is required to be at 100 degrees f or during inspection inspector and owner checked water heater pilot was completely out. Owner re-lit pilot to allow for hot water.
  • Water temperature measured at 92 degrees at 3 compartment sink. Water is required to be at 120 degrees F or above.

The restaurant received an inspection score of 65%. This inspection was conducted on April 12, 2019.
