DOCS: Man who jumped out of moving cruiser in December, identified

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — According to court documents, a man who reportedly jumped out of a moving cruiser in December 2018 has been identified.

Documents show that around 4 p.m. on December 22, Eduardo Barrera Martinez entered the Bakersfield Police Department lobby and appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested for public intoxication and admitted to consuming spice earlier in the day.

Officers began transporting Martinez to the Kern County Jail, when according to police documents, he began acting weird and not standing still. Deputies said that they also witnessed the bizarre behavior.

Documents show that a nurse told officials that he needed to be medically cleared before being brought to jail. Officers began to take him to Kern Medical at approximately 5 p.m. and radioed for assistance in restraining him.

According to police, it was soon after that officer's alerted officials that thee suspect broke the rear window and jumped from the moving cruiser. An officer removed his handcuffs to treat Martinez and then proceeded to take him to Kern Medical.

Documents say that the damage to the vehicle is estimated at more than $500.
