The Dolores Huerta Foundation announced the launch of their #GetLoud Voter Registration Drive at Bakersfield City Hall on Monday.

The foundation, which partnered with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Center, is aiming to reach Kern County residents and encourage them to vote.

Jess Contreras of the Huerta Foundation said that the group will be targeting east Bakersfield residents in particular because of the low voter turnout in that area.

Students from the MLK Freedom Center ranging from 12-years-old to college-aged are working with the Huerta Foundation, traveling door-to-door. Some students came from as far away as Washington.

"They came to us seeking voter registration and civic duty," Contreras said of the MLK Center students. "So that's why they're here and we're here to help guide them in the right path in the Central Valley."

Contreras also said that both organizations are non-partisan. They say they encourage everyone to vote, regardless of party preference.
