BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A driver attempting to park their pickup truck, struck and killed a woman in Northeast Bakersfield Saturday morning, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the 2800 block of Oswell Street at about 11:17 a.m., where they located an adult man and woman that were struck by the truck.

The woman suffered major injuries and would later die at a local hospital, according to BPD. The man was also transported to the hospital for minor to moderate injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was attempting a "parking maneuver when his vehicle drove onto the sidewalk and struck the pedestrians," a police press release said.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
