Driver leads BPD on pursuit after failing to stop at DUI checkpoint

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A DUI checkpoint was held in Southwest Bakersfield overnight Saturday where more than a thousand vehicles were screened.

Three drivers were arrested and multiple vehicles were impounded.

The Bakersfield Police Department conducted the checkpoint on Stockdale Highway.
Police screened over 11,000 vehicles.

Three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

32 drivers were cited for driving without a license and 21 drivers were cited for driving with a suspended license.

55 vehicles were impounded.

Police said one driver failed to stop at the checkpoint leading officers on a pursuit to Northwest Bakersfield.

The driver lost control hit a street sign, disabling the vehicle.

He left his 16-year-old passenger behind and fled from the crash.

The driver remains at-large, his teen passenger however, sustained minor injuries from the crash.
